Is This The Weirdest Gift For Kids?

I saw the [tag]Bilibo[/tag] online a few weeks ago and thought to myself, “Who in the world would buy one of these for their kids?” Of course 30 minutes later, my wife called and said “Hey I found this cool gift for Livi for Christmas”. After talking for a few minutes, I realized that she bought her a Bilibo.

What is a Bilibo? It’s noting really…but it’s anything your kids want it to be.

From [tag]Kid-O[/tag], the Swiss made Bilibo is an odd shaped, half shell toy thing. There is nothing like having children to make you feel old. I don’t remember getting anything quite like this when I was 2. Now that I think about it, I don’t remember anything I got when I was 2. But I guarantee that none of my toys were designed by a Swiss designer.

From the FatBrainToys website:

Developed by Swiss designer Alex Hochstrasser for Active People in collaboration with childhood development experts from University Children’s Hospital in Zurich, Bilibo’s unique form arouses curiosity, stimulates the senses, engages the imagination, and encourages creativity. Both boys and girls can find virtually unlimited ways to play with Bilibos - from rocking, spinning, and sitting to hiding under, carrying with, and peeking through. At home, at the park, at the beach, in the water, and even in the snow, Bilibo provides hours of open-ended play.

Bilibo is highly acclaimed by childhood learning specialists and toy experts in both Europe and the U.S. It has been featured in museum exhibitions and has received numerous design awards.

I guess it’s better than a lot of toys out there. At least the Bilibo is designed to stimulate play, imagination and physical activity. My [tag]daughter[/tag] loves to use it as a seat. I’m sure she will find more uses for it soon.

I’d love to hear about weird gifts your [tag]children[/tag] received for Christmas. Is there anything out there weirder than the Bilibo?

  1. ‘Numerous design awards’. I knew it! I need to invent something like that.
