Guess What We Saw At The Zoo

It was a beautiful day yesterday here in Memphis so we packed up the kid and headed to the zoo. Of all the cool things we saw at the zoo, what does my daughter remember?

Poopie!…That’s right, poopie

We covered most of the zoo and saw all kinds of animals. I was being a good dad and had her on my shoulders most of the time. She had a ball and was able to get a much better view of the animals, and we were able to cover a lot more ground that way. Two year olds tend not to follow the shortest distance between two points.

We saw all the normal animals you think of when you think of the zoo. She was excited to see the giraffes, elephants, lions, tigers, monkeys, penguins, a huge gorilla and some pink flamingos. But, we saved the best for last.

Right before we left, we headed over to the petting zoo area. We saw a cow, some pigs and some sheep. We walked up to the ponies and all of a sudden my daughter pointed at the poopie on the ground and said:

What’s that?!

Since we’re in the middle of potty training, we try not to shy away from anything potty related. We told her it was poopie and soon our discussion revolved around all the animals making poopie.

Afterwards, I was talking to her and the conversation went something like this:

>>Me: “Hey Olivia, did we go to the zoo?”

Olivia: “Yea!”

>>Me: “Did we see some BIG elephants?”

Olivia: “Yea…I see poopie”

>>Me: “Yea…we saw some poopie. Did we see a big cow?”

Olivia: “Yea…I see poopie”

It’s useless. I asked her about all the cool animals we saw but her response was the same each time…”Yea…I see poopie”.

Go figure…kids are funny and amazing that way. And hey, we all had a great time and I think I scored some serious daddy points by carrying her around on my shoulders. It was a great way to bond with my daughter.
