Earn Some Daddy Points With Amazon and YouTube
Since my daughter is 2 1/2 she’s into and curious about everything. One thing she’s particularly interested in is my laptop.
She’s been fascinated with computers for quite a while. There has been a computer in her last two rooms at school and loves to play and watch other kids play with the computer.
I recently found a way to use my computer to score some serious one-on-one time with my daughter.
She loves to “do dolls” with me. What we do is sit together on the couch and search for pictures of dolls and anything “princess” related on Amazon. I’ll also use YouTube to search for videos ranging from Ariel to Elmo.
She loves it and it provides some great time together with my daughter. She loves to just sit there with me and look at all the pictures that just magically appear on my laptop. She even makes sure that I put my arm around her while we “do dolls”. When I pull up a product or video you can tell that she’s constantly scanning the screen for another doll or princess to view. When she finds something she’ll say “I like that one” and that’s my queue to click so she can see a larger picture.
The picture you see here is of a doll called the Baby Born, Mommy Look I Can Swim Doll. This is one of Olivia’s favorite because it has a commercial embedded into the page. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that commercial.
She starts to get a little upset when we pull up a product and it doesn’t have a video. And it can be rather difficult to explain to a 2 year old that not all dolls have a video or “sing” as she puts it. You can see the video here at the bottom of the picture.
You tend to find the commercials on larger, name brand products. So, if you’re looking for something fun to do and bond with your child, you might want to boot up the laptop (or PC) and head on over to Amazon.com or Youtube.com and search for their favorite character.

Oh man, just wait until she figures out that with a click of a button, daddy could bring all her dollies home…
Keep the credit card away from her. Women (at any age) and online shopping are bad mix.
@Ashley: Yea - tell me about it. I’m going to try to keep that a secret as long as possible.
@Jason: She already likes to play with my wallet and is just now learning about “money”. I’ll have to hide my wallet soon!
I guess she will be a designer.
