Gillette Fusion Versus Schick Quattro Titanium: Part II
I’m a few days into my trial run of the Schick Quattro Titanium razor. If you missed the first part of this series you can check out the first part here. I’ll be discussing both the features and the general look of these two razors. The next update will focus on the most important part…performance!
The first thing you’ll notice is the obvious color difference between the two razors. The Fusion is the “midnight” version of the regular razor and touts a darker, tougher looking color scheme. Actually, Gillette calls their darker razor the Phantom.

Target didn’t have the midnight version of the Quattro so I can’t make a full apples-to-apples comparison of the two dark razors. It’s easy to see that these two razors come from two different marketing teams that try to attract different segments of the man market.
“Looks” shouldn’t change the way a razor works so this really should be a non issue.
However, I’d grow a beard before I used some girly looking razor. I’ve got to draw the line somewhere. I like the look of the Fusion better because it’s larger and looks easier to hold and to use. But - the Schick definitely has more of a timeless and classic look.
If my old man were to choose between the two, I’m sure he’d choose the Schick. Same goes for my Grandfather.

You’ll also notice that my Fusion is the powered version. The single battery makes the whole razor vibrate and is supposed to give you a better shave. Again, Target didn’t have the “powered” version of the Quattro so I was stuck buying the Plain-Jane Quattro.
When I first opened the Quattro, the first thing that popped into my head was: “Wow - this is a lot smaller than the Fusion”. After holding them up together I learned that I was wrong…my eyes were playing tricks on me. The blades themselves are the same width but the Fusion has a much larger, what I’ll call a pre-shave comfort strip, than the Quattro.
The Quattro also has a different feel compared to the Fusion. I thought it had to do with a firmer handle but after playing around with both of them, I’ve determined that the Fusion has a more responsive head. When you push the heads back with your fingertip, the Fusion is smoother and has a greater range of motion versus the Quattro.
So far the Fusion Phantom has some features that I like better than the Quattro. But, the main thing I’m looking for is a consistent shave and blades that stay sharp for as long as possible. I have to say that I like the Quattro. I received a couple for free over the past year through free sample sites nd have to say that they cut smooth and don’t give me as much problems as other razors. I can’t say that I have tried the fusion, but I would put a kudo toward the Quattro from my experience.
I have got to say that as a man who shaves his head along with his face, your two choices are not that great. Because I shave my head I have to have a blade that will flex. I have used both of the razors your tested, and both have ripped the crap out of my cranium. Neither are worth the money in my opinion.
The one I use is the Schick Xtreme disposables. Why disposables? Because I go through one razor a week. It is more economical for me to use the disposables as opposed to buying the blades. Disposables are cheaper, by only a few cents mind you, than blades.

@Chris: Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate the comment. My experience with the Quattro has been good so far. I can tell that the blades hold their edge longer than the fusion which is always a good thing.

I’ve long wondered how well the Fusion would work for me, but am stuck in a shaver-rut, since my son (and mom) thought I should use a Braun shaver and not razor.
In time, I am sure, I’ll simply have to own up that I don’t prefer using a shaver (for touch-ups, sure, but not daily), but until then I’ll have to bide my time.
