Pregnancy Week 30: She’s A Soccer Champion

Time flies when you’re having fun. It’s been a month since my last pregnancy update on my wife…I guess no news is good news right?

One of the main things that changed over the last month is Madeleine’s strength. Let me tell you - that girl can kick. If her kicking is a sign of things to come, she’s going to be one active little baby.

We were hoping for a nice, calm, kicked-back little baby this time around. Olivia has been pretty much non-stop since she was born…I don’t know if I can handle two hoodlums running around.

I haven’t been around a great deal of pregnant women, but I’ve never seen a baby kick so hard that you can see it through a shirt! And when I put my hand on her belly…watch out! I don’t just feel a little bump here or there…it’s a solid “thump”. She’s a strong one and she’s only going to get stronger.

Here are some interesting facts about babies at 30 weeks:

  • The baby is between 15-16 inches in length
  • The baby weighs about 3 pounds
  • Eyesight continues to develop

From this point on the baby will grow at a rapid pace. She’ll alt least double in weight over the next 7-10 weeks…that means mommy is going to grow along with her!

We still have a lot to do around the house. I still haven’t painted either of the rooms and we still need some furniture. Oh yea - and we need some baby bedding…stay tuned for more updates.

  1. Nice to see everything going to plan, not too long now before the excitement.

    Good luck.

  2. Glad everything is going well for your wife. Not long now.

My youngest daughter was definitely the more active of my 2, before she was born. But she has got to me the most mellow, easy going, go along to get along child I have ever met. Shereally doesn’t care what we do, where we go, or how long we are going to be there - so long as she is with somebody. Her only thing is she doesn’t like to be alone. Of course, she’s only 7 now - we’ll see how it is when she turns 14 or 15.

  3. @Xbox: Thanks! And I like your use of the term “excitement”…it’s definitely going to be exciting.
@Chadwick: Your daughter sounds very sweet. I hope new baby is a little low-key…I still have my hands full with my first daughter.

  4. Dude, Tyler, take it from me man, get the stuff done ASAP! You don’t want to be worrying about anything left to do when the baby comes.

  5. Well… you are almost there… congrats! I feel your concern about active kids…I have a very active 3.5 year old right now and my 3.5 month old keeps us hopping as well. Our eldest loves being active…soccer, gymnastics, etc…the list continues…so good luck…you’ll definitely stay busy that’s for sure…and as you know catch up on your sleep now!

  7. When my daughter was around 6 months in the womb, she kicked so much that my wife’s stomach looked like an alien was going to burst right out of it. Seriosuly, though, kicking is a great sign; it shows that the baby is active, and often it’s responding to external cues, whether auditory or based on touch.

Just make sure your wife gets plenty of Omega-3 fatty acid supplements; the benfits to baby and child are simply amazing, and science is just getting around verifying it’s numerous benfits for pregnant women. - see:http://www.modernwomenshealth.com/in-the-news/chinese-doctors-say-omega-3-eases-depression-for-pregnant-women/ and http://in.reuters.com/article/health/idINCOL76393320080327

  8. Great to hear she’s making healthy progress. I could not believe how strong my first daughter was before and after being born. They can really pack a whallop! As long as she’s not dancing on your wife’s bladder or spleen or anything, it’s good.
